OUR CLASSROOM LIBRARIES
THE Learning Connection research-based classroom libraries correlate to State and National Standards & Skills and to the criteria established by leading teaching associations including: IRA (International Reading); NCTM (National Math); NCTE (National English); NAEYC (National Early Child); NCSS (National Social Studies); NSTA (National Science); NABE (National Bilingual); and NHSA (National Head Start). They meet the criteria for NCLB (No Child Left Behind). Our Math correlates to Everyday Math, FCAT, NCTM, TEKS, ASK & GEPA.
Award-Winning books in the innovative libraries include leveled readers, fiction, non-fiction, biography, reference, poetry, historical fiction, atlas, and dictionaries; and audio read-along books on CD, interactive books, and electronic books. They assist students in mastering the skills on local & state tests. The philosophy is based on research that shows that literature develops literacy. By providing outstanding books that children want to read, children develop a love of reading as they develop literacy. They develop comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, and writing skills. The collections include teacher guides that provide for different teaching approaches including balanced literacy, differentiated instruction, and alternative teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students whether they are fluent readers, or reluctant readers. OUR LEVELS
THE Learning Connection includes leveling information in its teacher guides to assist teachers in matching children’s levels with the appropriate literature. Leveling criteria is based on formulas and leveling systems including: Dale-Chall, DRA, Fry Grade Level Readability, Guided Reading, Lexile, Fountas & Pinnell, Reading Recovery, and Spache Readability.
The goal is to provide for differentiated instruction and inclusion to meet the needs of a diverse range of learners including Bilingual, English Language Learners, Gifted, Special Needs, Above Level, On Level, and Below Level.
